Hello everyone I will be building a PC very soon and I'm not going to icnlude an ssd in it because I'm on a budget. However, I'm planning to add it on later and I wanted it just for OS and some programs. Is there any way I can transfer Windows 8.1 and some programs from my HDD to SSD?

Thanks for answering :)  :)  :)  .

Depends what the SSD is. You can download a program from the site to do this

Easy way is to reinstall windows fresh. Moving an OS is a PITA.

Just save what you need to save on the HDD. You can still access it once you install windows on the SSD.

PS. Get a good sized SSD. 128GB MIN.... 256-500 would be best :)  That way you can fit your programs and OS on it.

To answer that specifically, no. You can't pick and choose.

I always recommend a fresh install on the new SSD. Far fewer hassles and probability of fail.

Migration options:
1. Reduce the size of the installed stuff on the HDD to below 80% of the SSD space. Migrate.
2. Paragon Migrate purports to move only the OS http://www.paragon-software.com/technologies/components...
Non-free application
3. Buy a larger SSD.
