Hi all
** I'm not shure if im post at the right section.. Im was search for an android and not found...!!**
My friend bring me his galaxy 2 after water damaged( by air conditioner.. )im pretty good at PC& electronics.. But haven't try smartphones yet...
So just wonered if u guys can help to us... Im disassemble the phone and whole the main board & contacts was covered by a white corrosion... So im start to clean it up with flat tiny screwdriver, contact spray and a tooth brush... Well, now the pcb looks pretty clean... Im try to charge it and 1-2 chips start to get warm after a minute...probably the(max?!?) charging chip.. But the screen and the buttons near the home button are dark....
BTW!!..... It has an internal storage... All what important to my friend.. IT'S JUST THE DATA ON IT!!( again what's at the internal memory...) so all what im ask for, it's just, and what else can i do for be able to backup the data?! The galaxy itself not so important
Sorry if my English is bad.. Hope that I'm clearly enough to you guys!!.. Thanks!!

If you plug it into a PC and it doesn't get detected by Windows, the memory is most likely screwed. Retrieving the data would be very, very expensive. There are places that do this kind of work but it is very time consuming, it requires very expensive specialized equipment and costs more than like 5 or 6 of those phones.

No, you literally have to remove the memory chip and re-solder it onto a different memory controller that is able to "turn it on" and let you read it. If you really did clean all the corrosion off of the PC then and it still won't at least power up when plugged into a USB port then at least some if not all the tiny resistors and capacitors in that phone are shot. It is either a brick or a very expensive data retrieval.

Next time, tell him to either make a complete back up of all his data to a cloud or to his PC so in case he damages or loses his next phone he can at least have all his important data. Or, tell him to look at all the new waterproof Androids hitting the market. http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/best-waterproof-phones/
