ok I have a intel dx58SO2 motherboard and a x58 chipset. the board only comes with 3 graphics cards slots 1x - x1pcie slot and a pci slot.

I have 1 radeon 280x graphgics card installed and am using the x1 pcie slot. so I had 2 remaining full throttle lanes for graphics cards but I put a x4 pcie sound card in a creative recon 3d sound card into a graphiocs card slot. it fits it just does not have the extra pins to fill the entire slot. it works ruinbs saflyt and heard this can be done ok is why I did it

however one slight problem. the slot I have the sound card in is running at a x8 speed. how could I reduce this lane and make it run at a x4 speed. reason being is I think it is causinbg minor bugs but I don't know

I read it in somewhere, for x58 chipset MB ( total 36 lanes), but the 1st pcie x1 run in fix x4, and the 1st pciex16 is in fix x16. So you can buy one the pciex1 riser like http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/1670337752/PCIe-PCI-... use it with the soundcard and connect to the 1st pciex1 slot, because the 280x block the 1st pciex1. I think it may work.
