I can't install anything into this folder nor can I delete anything from it, everything from that folder runs fine. I have tried many times going into security and trying to change the rights, but it just says that the owner is trustedinstaller. I bought this computer in March, back then I could install anything. This is slowly going to affect me because I am unable to install gfx drivers. Using an SSD and an HDD, running Windows 8.1.

Kartikeya Rao,

Let’s verify that you’re actually logged in as an administrator on this computer. You’d experience these same issues if you were logged in as a standard user.

In order to check what type of account you’re using, move your mouse cursor down to the bottom right corner of your screen, then move it up so that your Charms bar pops up. Click on Search and then type in Users. Select Add, delete and manage other users accounts. From this window, you’ll be able to see if the account you’re using is an administrator or not.

For more information, you may want to take a look at the User accounts: FAQ page.

Hope this helps!

Kartilkeya Rao,

You mention trying to change the rights to the folder but have you tried taking ownership?

In order to do this, start by right-clicking on the folder and selecting Properties. Go to the Security tab then select Advanced. You’ll see a link next to Owner that will allow you to change who the owner is. Click on it and enter your user account. Select OK. Once you’re back on the Advanced page, make sure you’ve checked the box next to “Replace all child permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object” and select OK.

At this point, you’re now the owner of this folder and should be able to make any modifications you want to it.

Hope this helps!
