Recently my desktop and my laptop went stopped working properly. What I am wondering is if I can access the hard drive (all programs & operating system) on my new laptop with out moving all the files on the new computer? can this be done? I bought a docking station and can move the files but I rather use the hard drive as a second & third "computer" so to speak. anyone have any one know how to do this?

The OS will have a hard time booting when in another computer. It may work, but more likely will crash(blue screen error).

Depending on the version of Windows, it is also not supposed to be used on any machine, but the one it came with.

The data files will be accessible. I would not recommend booting from the hard drive - and most of the programs would need to be installed on the laptop - you can't just use them.

OOps, I misunderstood your Original question.

You want to access your Old laptop hard drive with your new laptop?

Why don't you just switch hard drives? (put the old one into the new one)

Very often, that does not work.

There should be at LEAST 3 SATA slots on the motherboard.
