Hi! I'm debating with myself about which one of these two I should buy. I initially preffered the ASUS one and placed my order on Amazon, but since they are all out of stock I investigated a little more and the gigabyte caught my eye. Mostly because of the cooler design and overclock.

I saw some comparisons and the STRIX was overclocked at around 1450 MHz on LinusTechTips and the gigabyte at around 1500MHz on JayzTwoCents. Also I compared the temps of the windforce and the Direct CUII, on a 770 though, I couldn't find it on a 970 and they differ on 2º - 3º Celcius. Also they both have 3 year warranty.

So do you think I should spend the extra $20 for the Gigabyte? Probably the only thing that would change my mind now would be the customer support they provide. Luckily I've never had to contact either for issues, have you had any experiences making RMA's with Asus or Gigabyte?.

Also as a side note, do you know when the 970's will re-stock?

Thanks for the help! :)

Yeah I've been thinking about it and I'll change my order for the Gigabyte version. I also like that the fans cool the RAM and other components of the PCB and don't focus only on the chip itself. And the 8 + 6 pin provides more power that a single 8 pin like the STRIX. Do you happen to know an approximate of when will the stores restock?

I am going for the Gigabyte after originally ordering (then cancelling) a STRIX. Just my 2 cents. The G1 looks to be a all around better performance card.

Got my MSI 970 to 1556mhz. Had it at 1606 for a bit but just barely unstable..

Just my 2 cents:
I went for the G1 gaming after much debate. Looks like a better card to me. Good luck with your setup!

The Asus is more geared for quiet operation and lower power consumption. That doesn, mean it can't over clock well. Its also made with high quality components. If an extra 50 MHz is more important, go with the Gigabyte.
