Pentium 3460 vs i3 4130?

Unless I'm mistaken, these two CPUs have the same architecture and number of cores, but the i3 has a slightly lower clock speed than the Pentium. Doesn't this mean that the Pentium is a more powerful CPU? Thanks for helping an obvious newb out with confusion :)

I assume you mean the i3-4130?

They are very similar, however the i3 has hyperthreading, which does make a significant difference in lots of situations, including gaming. The i3 also has the new haswell AVX instruction set which makes a massive difference in encryption type operations... which is probably not hugely relevant.

Thanks for catching that. I've heard that hyperthreading helps and I've heard that it doesn't make a big difference. Thanks though.
