I have a LaCie drive which works fine connected to an older PowerPC G5 Mac. I'd like to move it to a newer iMac, but when I connect it (using it's FireWire adapter) it doesn't appear on the Desktop or in Disk Utility.

The LaCie drive is formatted as 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.
The iMac's internal drive shows up as 'Journaled HFS+'. OS X 10.6.8

What do I need to do to make the LaCie drive work w/ the iMac?
Thanks in advance.

Hey there, hadenp!

Do you see the drive in the Disk Utility on your iMac Desktop?
If it's indeed HFS+, you just need to click Repair in the Disk Utility.
Afterwards you should be able to see the drive.

Hope this helped.

The LaCie didn't show up in Disk Utility or System Profiler yesterday. Today, I powered on the iMac and after reading your suggestion brought up DU and again it wasn't showing - at first. I also reseated the FireWire adapter, then tried SP and voila! it did appear and shortly afterwards displayed on my desktop.

All this took a few minutes. So maybe the machine needed to be restarted with the LaCie connected up. Thanks much for your suggestion!

It's true, sometimes a simple restart can resolve the problem.
