So I brought a CAT-6, 2m ethernet cable yesterday and am having a few issues. Basically it says it's linked (orange glow on the back of my desktop) however it's not recongised, I can't connect to it. I assumed it was a driver issue however when I bought my current modem some months back, I used a fairly old cable (well, not that old but still) to set up the network and it was fine. Unfortunately I got rid of the cable when I was moving.

It does work when I connect it up to my PS4 so the issue must be the computer. I'm not using a network card, just the port that comes on the motherboard (ASUS P8 Z77-M Pro).

It isn't a desperate fix, I can live with wireless but I'd like to make sure I explore every possible solution before throwing it away.

its likely a conflict between the cat6 cable and your onboard ethernet card.try a cat5 cable.
