I need to get an Ethernet connection to my room (for gaming) but I have no idea how to do it, as I'm at the opposite end of the house. It will have to go through one room, the MASSIVE living room, through the hallway, into my room, to the back of my room, and into my desktop. How the HELL am I going to do this? Any help would be great...

Run it through your basement, or attic. If you dont have the knowledge or skills to do it, pay someone. If you dont have the money to pay someone, youll have to deal with an ethernet cord running through your house. Or you can try powerline adapters.

Hi
You need a power line adaptor these plug into the wall sockets and have an ethernet port, the data signal is transmitted over the mains power wiring.
You would need one powerline adaptor at your modem/router connected to it with an ethernet cable and you would have the other powerline adaptor in your room with your computer connected to it with an ethernet cable.

How good would the connection be? I know it won't be as good as a 100% Ethernet connection, but how much worse would it be?

They are pretty good especially if you get a 500MB/s one as the even with interference on the line and such you should still achieve a good transfer rate.
They can be a good solution to your sort of problem but no they are not as good as a cable.

About how much would this whole operation cost?

I am using powerline adapters and they have been great, I went from a average ping of 80+ on WiFi to 20-30 using the powerline adapters. It made no difference to my broadband upload or download speed. I think they are a great solution.

Definitely use a powerline adaptor - it's a lot easier than running an ethernet lead. There are two types - ones which connect via ethernet cable at your end and secondly, 'wireless powerline adaptors'. Check Amazon for 'powerline adaptors' If you're going for the wired type look for pass-through adaptors which don't tie up a socket.

Yes, definitely try a Powerline adapter solution.
