Better fps with FRAPS than Dxtory!?

So I was told dxtory was supposedly the best recording software with the least impact on fps. For me that has been nothing but outright wrong, recording at 60 fps 1080p with dxtory lossless lagarith has been disastrous, dropping to 40-50fps consistantly and the video looks awful.
I have battlefield installed on my 7200rpm caviar blue HDD and I have dxtory installed on my 1tb caviar black 170+mb/s write speed. My caviar black is literally empty apart from 2gb worth of data, fraps and dxtory and a couple other folders.
With fraps I can record at 50fps full resolution perfectly fine and the video loks great, but my problem is the massive hit it has on fps, the game stutters much more and considering I usually play @90fps i can really notice it. Should I just set it to 120fps recording and let the framerate be more unstable in the recording but get better fps when playing? I will be rendering it out @30fps anyway so will it matter too much?
Otherwise I have no idea, I really want dxtory to have less of an impact but i dont know how to make it so, it just cant record at 60fps steadily, unlike fraps which does a good job, its only problem being its big hit on fps.
Does fraps automatically cap at the fps I'm recording? Is that why everything feels much worse?
Would getting a ssd help reduce fps impact, but bear in mind i wouldnt be getting one till christmas so solving the present problem is most important. Any idea, i was told about a fragmented hdd, or conflicting programs, but i dont quite know how to fix them or even if thats an issue.
I use lossless lagarith for dxtory at 85% @ 50fps and it can barely keep up, fraps on best quality at 60fps can keep up pretty well, but i go to 50fps to be safe.
Any idea whats happening, would really appreciate som help, might send you some money tbh this is such a problem
