if the ssd not in the bios it could be the ssd bricked itself. if you can plug the ssd into a desktop trty running the ssd tools from the vendor web page and firmware update. if they dont see the drive then the drive may have died. if the drive works in another pc then you may have bent pin or a logic board issue with your laptop.

the problem is it is a mini ssd not much bigger than the ram and it is brand new.the slot it goes into is different to a 2.5 drive

It's most likely the wrong mini SSD. The slot is a mini pci-e slot, but only some of them carry the sata signal. If this slot doesn't have the signal, you need a "real" PCI-E SSD and that might be hard to get.

You can find them on Ebay and the like (Used usually) If you can tell us what size you are looking for we might be able to lead you to a good one. (I'm assuming you would prefer new however due to the fact that they are old tech they may be hard to find new.)

this is the specs for the ssd I bought to replace the faulty one.

If its asking for a driver its because youre using a USB 3 port to install Win7. Use a USB 2 port. If its only got USB 3 ports you need USB 3 drivers
