Hello,

I am currently using a Dell Vostro 3560 Laptop for work, specs below.

Specifications
Dell Vostro 3560Notebook: Dell Vostro 3560 (Vostro 3560 Series)
Processor: Intel Core i5 3210M
Graphics Adapter: AMD Radeon HD 7670M 1024 MB
Display: 15.6 inch, 16:9, 1920x1080 pixels, glossy: no
OS: Windows 7

Everything was fine until a few months ago when I decided to update the discrete AMD GPU Display Drivers. The new drivers either did not work or could not detect the GPU (I also think there may be clash between the On-board Graphics and the Discrete Graphics).

When I install the new AMD Drivers I get no driver at all i.e. not even the On-board chipset works. So I end up getting the solidish blue task bar instead of Aero.

If I uninstall all AMD drivers I can get the On-board Graphics to run, which is fine, but it is nowhere near as smooth as it used to be.

I initially thought maybe it was just a bad driver but I just tried again, months later, and it is still the same result.

I have tried to use device manager to manually disable the On-board Grapics but it still doesn't make any difference.

Admittedly, I have much more experience on PCs rather than Laptops but installing a new driver should be pretty universal...

Any help would be appreciated and just let me know if you need any specific diagnostics run to identify the issue.

Thanks, Michael.

That's the thing though, it doesn't.

I have tried to google this issue and I have seen similar replies but it just doesn't switch.

I use CAD software and it pops up with warnings occasionally regarding performance issues relating to hardware, which never came up before.

Also just from looking at it I can tell that the Discrete card is not operating behind the scenes. I am doing basic 2D line schematics and if I try to 'Pan' around the sheet, it is sooo jumpy and jittery. This should not be the case for any reasonable GPU.

When I originally went to update the Driver I had CCC running perfectly fine on the laptop, the CCC symbol was where the Intel HD Graphics symbol is now. The only reason I went to update it was my built-in pedanticness regarding keeping my computer in shipshape condition. It turned out to be a horrendous mistake :(

Edit: Is there any software programs available that monitor both GPUs and therefore prove that I am wrong?

Sorry, I'm not aware of any software, that can monitor the dual graphics activity, but: the driver will probably not switch from Intel to AMD, as long as you do 2D, because there is no significant performance difference between the gpu's with 2D. More over I guess, your problem with the line schematics is more related to low ram, instead of the gpu.
