I have a few HTPC's from my work and was wondering what would be the best way to make a render server that I could manage without needing to have a monitor always connected.
Will you have local LAN connectivity or only internet connectivity ? How many total machines are you trying to have access to?
LAN connectivity and 3 for now.
You want something like
this. You connect to if via ethernet. It then connects to the servers via an adapter that plugs into cat5 cable. You can find them used on E-Bay for $150. You will need an adapter for each computer and they run $20+ each.... This is the kind of solution that a datacenter would use.
Ok but I was looking more for a way to manage them over my home router using my PC. Any software/OS that could do this?
If they are running windows you can use
RDP.
Here is a tutorial.
This assumes that the computers are booted and running windows. The hardware solution allows you to boot them, get to the BIOS, etc. Sorry if I went down a path you weren't looking for.
