I recently started playing shadow of mordor, I play maxed out and the game runs very smoothly for 90% of the time however I get some rare fps drops and pc hangs that last about 5 seconds, I am fairly certain its not an issue with my PC's hardware as it doesn't happen in any other game and I have no temp issues. Has anyone else had these problems?
Specs:
i7
6BG RAM
GTX 780

Is that 6gb of ram or 16? Just making sure that you haven't mis typed something here. 6 gb can be an issue trying to run the game at max even with that card. Not all ram is available to use.

GTX780 doesn't have enough VRAM for maxed settings. Try turning it down to high and you should be fine.

that's utterly stupid that you need more than 3gb of vram it doesnt look that amazing, its pretty but there are more impressive games that run way better

next gen consoles are the reason we need so much vram.. that's why i need to replace my 770(2GB) to run max settings

I have a Gtx770 4gb card and can run this game on ultra with vsync on at 1080p. The only time I get this lag is when I try to use SLI with Batman AK bits. So I turned it off and now its fine.

If max means more than the recommended texture detail for your VRAM, that is probably why.
