Hi all

I have this two combos, and altogether two sticks of 4GB DDR3. I'm determined to keep only one of them. The i3 is definitely faster than the celeron, but the 1155 sockets might be a drawback later on. The Celeron setup has newer socket, but the chipset is more of an entry level kind.

The most intensive task for the setup will be some light gaming (couple with a GT640 LP) such as KSP, Civ5 and TR. Now the question is, should I keep the i3 to have more juice now, or should I keep the celeron and upgrade later on?

Cheers

Stay with the i3-2120, it still delivers good performance for more than everyday usage.

And if you ever want more performance on gaming, upgrade the GPU only to a R7 260X/GTX 750 or R7 265/750 Ti or future equivalents.

If you go with the celeron and you want more performance, you'll have to upgrade the CPU and the GPU. Not worth it.

And if ever want more CPU performance, the core i5 and i7 Ivy bridge will be dirt cheap in some years.

thats a tough one but the answer seems simple .. get the newer socket so that later on all you have to worry about is getting a new cpu for it rather than getting the older socket thats soon obsolete .. btw i dont think tomb raider will play very well on a celeron cpu honestly ..and i would recommend a gpu upgrade but since you only want to do light gaming then you should be fine with that card..

If you plan on upgrading the combo, go with the newest socket.

If you dont plan to upgrade it, go with the stronger cpu.

Apples to Apples a 1155 i3 and an 1150 i3, the newer 1150 is at best 10% performance increase.

Now the 1150 has less power usage, so if this is small pc where power is a concern then the 1150 socket would be better.
