I seen some places where people just uninstalled the 3.0 drivers and it reverted to 2.0 every time I uninstall the drivers they just reinstall themselves after I restart. How do I stop this. I chose the universal option to not download from windows... apparently that didn't work. Dell XPS 14

You have to load the specific drivers for the device in question. You can't use just any driver, particularly with USB 3.0 adapters.

Why do you want to install usb 2.0 drivers?

Your 2.0 devices should work in a USB 3.0 socket

That isn't 100% universal. A lot of poorly designed USB2.0 devices out there. A common problem is being unable to detect the amount of power available from a socket. Older devices were designed around USB 1.0/1.1 and 2.0 power standards. Many USB3.0 ports can deliver a lot more current. These values are unrecognizable or out of range for older devices and they will simply refuse to power up.

Most motherboards will have some 2.0 sockets. Laptops are a bit of a problem, as they have pretty much gone all USB 3.0. Make sure to try every port. Some will be Intel, some will be a third party USB 3.0 controller if there are a lot of ports.

I have a K+Dcan usb serial converter cable. The ft232r chipset doesn't work with usb 3.0.

Can't you use an available USB 2.0 port then?

I've successfully installed this cable on a couple other laptops with similar operating system setup. The only difference is that they both have 2.0 ports. Both my ports are 3.0... right now I'm trying to figure out how to stop the drivers from re-installing themselves.

Are you using a pre-USB 3.0 OS like Windows 7 or earlier? Windows 8.x and later is suppose to resolve the issue since no 3rd party host drivers need to be installed.

When I uninstalled and deleted the 3.0 drivers, native drivers were automatically installed when I restart but they apparently don't work. The show in the bios but nothing happens when I plug anything into the port. I guess I will need that hub.
