I just found out today about an issue that a co-worker of a friend is having. Her Lenovo machine (don't know if it's 8 or 8.1 -- I'm guessing 8.1 from what I do know) had an automatic update that caused the USB drivers to go awry in some way. I've done some searching and found references to it, but the posts that I read usually didn't come to the point that her computer has. Upon booting, the computer does not recognize any USB connections at all. This means no mouse and no keyboard.

A friend of hers recommended trying F8 during bootup, but apparently even that didn't work. It sounds like Lenovo farms out their support to another company, and their English is pretty terrible, judging from the reply she got to her support request ticket. They wanted $150 for the fix, but that's over half of what she paid for the computer last December. I said I'd see about options.

So could I boot from a USB drive and install/load drivers onto her HDD and reboot from that? Can I slave her HDD to mine and load drivers that way? Can I boot it up and do remote control without changing anything or setting it up from her comp (since it has no keyboard or mouse input)?
