Hey guys. My old cpu was a i5 2300 and i bought a new i5 3570k.

Everything was working fine with the old cpu but now after installing the new cpu the pc wont boot up at all. Everything spins (though the cpu fan spins and stops twice before spinning properly see video ) and the motherboard lights up.

So I took the new processor back out and put the new one back in and it boots up to the american megatrends motherboard screen, the screen says press please enter setup to recover bios, please press F1 to run setup which i did and then my pc started working as before.

Im a little confused. Is there something that i should have done software wise or should my motherboard recognise and start the new processor without me doing anything other than just installing it onto the motherboard.

Specs:

Asus P8H61-E motherboard
3gb sapphire r9 280x
8gb ram
700 watt psu
i5 2300 processor (old)
i5 3570k processor (new processor, when installed pc wont boot)

Any help would be appreciated.

Solution
Because the 3570k was released far after your motherboard was released, you may have to update the BIOS to accommodate the new processor prior to installing the new processor. I would try putting the 2300 back in and updating the BIOS to the latest release for your motherboard (go to your motherboard's page on the Asus web site). After that is complete, then try the 3570k.
