Hi guys, I have an issue that I would like to resolve, I have always had this issue and think I have an idea as to how to fix it.

I have an Asus Z87a motherboard, i'm using the on board sound card and connected to it is my Logitech Z506 sound system. It's a 5.1 system with 4 satellite speakers, a centre speaker and a sub. One satellite speaker has the power, volume controls and a headphone input. When I plug headphones straight into the speaker, I can hear a very low level buzz/interference sound. Now it's not very annoying as when I play music or any audio it can easily get to a level where the buzz has been covered up and you can't hear it. But any drops in sound you can hear this buzz/interference again.

Now, if I take the same set of headphones and plug it straight into the front of the PC headphone port, I don't have this issue. However I'd like to use the speakers as they have a volume control and it sounds considerably better through the speakers, and especially during games this is very useful.

Now, is this an issue with the speakers or the on board sound card? I wouldn't mind getting a PCIe sound card as I have enough slots. I also don't have another set of speakers to test.

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks.

Does the headphone connector at the back i/o give the same "buzz"? If not is it probably the speakers themselves.
