I was going to make a build with a GTX 970 and a i5 4690k. I was wondering if 8gb would be enough for some light video editing and photoshop? Thanks.

Of course. More ram just speeds things up when dealing with large files, encoding, and renderings. Small jobs shouldn't exceed 8GBs, and even if they do, that just means it will take longer, not that it will be impossible.

+1 and would look to 1866 or even 2133 - pricewise can often find the faster sticks (which your CPU can handle easily) at the same/near same price as 1600 sticks
