I recently decided to purchase some new headphones because my earbuds were obviously shot. They would play sound out of the left, but not the right. If I fiddled with the cord and tweaked it a bit, it would start playing on the right again, so I figured it was a loose wire, etc. My new headphones just came in, and I knew they weren't going to be stellar. I didn't want something expensive, just functional, so I got the Sony MDR-ZX100. However, I just tried plugging them into my android tablet and my computer to find the same problem, sound from only the left. I tested my computer's sound settings and even the built in realtek speakers are only playing from the left. I haven't changed any settings that I know of, and before my previous headphones went out, everything was playing fine. So the main questions are: How do I get my computer to play from both speakers like it used to? What the heck is wrong with my android, that it is following suit? And are the new headphones I bought shot, or is it a hardware issue with both devices?

My computer is an Asus Laptop A53E series with Windows 7 and my tablet is an Asus Nexus 7.

Not likely it is an issue with both devices. Borrow some speakers or other headphones and test in both devices, and test those sony headphones in other devices.
