I have this pc that's a build from around 2009(i don't know for sure it was given to my by dad who got it in 2012) and i'm trying to boot Ubuntu onto it from a disc but it keeps telling me from the boot menu to use a windows boot disc. I assume it's a windows ready motherboard or something like that. Is it possible to make it boot something else. if so how

Try to go into your BIOS then look for Boot Configuration, set your DVD drive as priority and HDD as second.

Make sure you write the ISO onto DVD as image, not as a file. Use utility like ImgBurn for that.
Next, you want to make sure that DVD drive is BEFORE HDD in the BIOS boot options.
