Hello guy's i'm looking to upgrade my AMD A6-3605@4.0GHz to run arma 3.

So i'm looking in to the intel core i5 line maybe something like.

Intel Core i5-4690K@3.5GHz with this MB B85-G41 PC MATE is this something you guy's will recommend or something else?

and can i manly overclock with bios on this motherboard?

please let me know your thoughts as i have little to no experience with CPU/MB.

Cool.
if you did not already know MSI and Gigabyte have a BIOS for their Intel H81 and B85 Chipset Mobos that can OC a Pentium G3258. may or May not work with an i5 or i7.....the Multiplier is now able to change to a higher value. .may or May not work with an i5 or i7
....Though Intel Z87 and Z97 are officially supported for Overclocking Features.

I am not going to bore you with Intel and AMD charts or whatever. In short Both are different and good at what their trying to do. If your going with a Budget minded build for Intel I would not necessarily recommend the i5 4690k unless you really want to overclock it. , i could be wrong. But for arguments sake, this is decent: i5 4590 is quite a bit less than the 4690k and performs the same roughly.

EDIT: For a Motherboard it really depends on what type of setup your using. But for an smaller Nice looking Build I would go for a ASUS H97M-PLUS or MSI H97M-E35 for example

Well whatever the upgrade, he will get a much more powerful CPU over his old one :D
Just make sure to go with Intel since Arma 3 is single threaded and AMD's single threaded performance falls far behind Intel's resulting in better FPS for Intel.

That is a decent setup. Though For some reason the K10 Architecture does not perform as well as Piledriver in games. Though Phenom IIx4 965@3.4Ghz(K10) is faster than the FX4300 at 4.2Ghz. So while there is options for your Platform Like TheDualshock Said earlier Arma 3 is very CPU bound and is going to need that faster Intel architecture, Basically Sandy Bridge and newer are going to have better performance in games like this.
So with that Setup you have you could put in a Richland SKU maybe a A10 6790k and see some improvement. Though if you have the funds than go for an Intel. Even a Pentium G3258, once OC'd, can offer a great gaming experience in some of the most Demanding games.
