So I need an optical drive for my pc build and need an optical drive that is cheap around $20 and supports Windows 8.1 and the new upcoming windows 10. It also needs to be serial ATA and SATA 3.

More about : cheapest optical drive sata serial ata

There is little if any performance difference. I have 3 different drives here. Asus, LG, and some other one.
Can't tell any performance difference between the 3.

Probably half of the 5.25 inch DVD/R drives on the market are actually Lite-Ons. I know that the Asus DRW- series is a LIte-on rebadge and the best one is really whichever one is on sale at the moment. As it happens, the Lite on is $19.99 + another 20% promo code on newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... making about $16.

Samsung is ok too.
DVD burners are not fast. They can connect to any sata 1/2/3 port.
Just make certain that the drive you pick is sata and not IDE.

All you really need is a SATA DVD burner, there is no major difference between the cheap ones other than that.

Only drive i ever noticed a difference with was the plextor drive I got, its quiet but since DVDs are rarely used these days it doesn't make a difference.
