Trouble with random reboots and boot failures

I've been getting seemingly random shutdowns on my PC the past two weeks, doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, gaming or browsing the internet (however it does seem to be fine when idle). To add to this since I built the thing about 6 months ago it's been having issues booting up the OS properly as well, though it'd go through long stretches without any issue then appear again. The USB ports seem to cause interference with the OS booting properly or something. I've noticed if I have things plugged in and it doesn't boot, taking the cords out tend to resolve it.

Through the event viewer after a random reboot I've been getting errors "Tun Mirror" and "License Activation (slui.exe) failed with the following error code:

hr=0xC004C003"

Event viewer also gives me a Kernel Power Event 41 Task 63 random shutdown critical error after every random reboot.

I should stop here and mention that I received a KMS activator copy of Windows 8.1 Pro from a friend through an install disk and thumbdrive. I'm wondering if this could be the culprit to both my issues or if it's the PSU, or both..

So far I've made sure all drives are updated, including bios. I've ran memtest to rule out ram, I've checked my connections, and switched the power cable, checked system temps and voltages, and cleaned out dust in the case. When the PC reboots there's no BSOD, just powers off and right back on as if I hit the restart button.

I'm probably just going to buy Windows 8.1 so I don't have to deal with any more activation key BS anymore regardless, but is there anything I'm overlooking or I should check as well?

Any possible help is appreciated! I'm still learning.

System:

Biostar TA970 Mobo
AMD FX-8320 cpu
G skill Ares 8GB ram
MSI GTX 760
Samsung 840 EVO SSD
WD Caviar Blue 1TB HDD

Would the best course to be to reinstall windows or buy a genuine copy first?

If I were to use safe mode to see if it persists and it doesn't, what would that imply?

I'm worried about the PSU messing components up too. Or missing something completely and not fixing the problem, such as the mobo. I have no idea how I would go about checking the mobo for defects though.

I would recommend installing a genuine version of windows and all up to date drivers for all your devices and then run the system ragged for a few hours to see if there is any issues, as it may just be that the version of windows your friend has given you may have corrupted code or maybe have been altered in someway that is causing your issues.

AMD Overdrive indicates at most a 53 degree celsius thermal margin at idle (hovers more around 50 though) and under load I'm getting typically around 29 degrees. The frequency reads 4000 mhz and is red, I don't know if that's the issue here. Multiplier is at 20.00 and VID is at 1.425 mostly if that helps.

As I started getting readings the first time the PC rebooted again after opening steam, it hasn't rebooted as of yet during the second attempt after I opened about 6 apps and then started a cpu stability test, which is still running.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. Is it possible these issues creep up after 6 months of use though?

Ok I found two more errors saying the KMS-host service failed to start due to not finding the file specified (event id 7000) and audit events have been dropped by the transport after my latest reboot if that helps anybody with my issue.
