I have a WD 4TB My Book HDD that is only about 4 months old. I have stored on there about 2.5TB of data connected to a USB 3.0 slot at the back. The other night I plugged my iPad into one of the USB 2.0 slots at the front of my PC and it wouldn't recognise the device, so I tried the other and same thing happened. I ignored it and plugged the iPad into its plug charger instead. I continued editing on my PC and then went to write some files from my WD HDD to a memory card that I put into one of the front two USB 2.0 slots on the PC... it let me write to it until a certain point when I was told that the file was corrupt giving me this error: Error 0X80070570. Now since researching this I know some people recommend running a CHKDSK on the drive, others recommend checking the drive for errors using "tools" under "properties" for the drive, others recommend taking all the files from the drive, backing them up and reformatting the original drive. I have bought a new HDD and I will be transferring all the data over today. But when I had a look at my Window Logs for the System under Computer Manager, the errors say that they are associated with Drive E, which was the removable hardware, ie the memory stick I plugged into the USB 2.0 slot. I then also tried to upload the files that I needed to write to the memory stick to my Dropbox, redownload them from there and try to write them to the memory stick with the WD HDD turned off... but I still got Error 0X80070570, which is now making me wonder if the error is on my computers internal HD.

Basically, I want to know why I can view all of the images, load them to Dropbox and download all of them successfully, but just cant write them to a memory stick? Are the files themselves corrupt? Or is it just a read/write error on the drive? Am I best moving all my files and reformatting the external HDD? Shall I reformat the computers internal HD too?
