Hey people,

I've been having some trouble finding the answer to my question for a while now so I decided to start this thread :)

Ever since I built my PC I've wanted to upgrade my processor since it is a massive bottleneck in my system (especially for gaming). I currently have an AMD athlon II x2 340 processor with a Sapphire Radeon R7 250 (2G DDR3) GPU.

Here is my question : when i upgrade my CPU, will i get more gaming performance with a more powerfull CPU (like the AMD FX 6300 hexacore) or an APU with which i can activate dual-graphics (like the AMD A8-7600)?

Thanks for answering :)

definitely dont go with an APU setup, especailly if you intend to try out hybrid crossfire. hybrid xfire, while its a nice idea, its not...

Well, if you want X-Fire your going to need to upgrade your CPU first seeing as it's a bottleneck in your system.
Once you do that you should be fine doing X-Fire.

Thanks,

definitely dont go with an APU setup, especailly if you intend to try out hybrid crossfire. hybrid xfire, while its a nice idea, its not terribly practical and the end results typically arent very good. additionally, the cpu performance of APUs is pretty poor.

get yourself a nicer intel dual/quadcore and an h97 or whatever mobo then upgrade to an even better cpu in the future. higher end intel dualcores oughtta waaay outperform an APU, and would beat your ancient athlon into oblivion.

AMD's current "performance" socket, am3+, is pretty much dead in the water. even if you went with a 6300, you could only upgrade to something like an 8320 later...which isnt much of an upgrade really.

so yeah, cheap intel dualcore cpu and mobo now to upgrade to a quad later on.

all that aside, the r7 250 isnt exactly a great gaming performer
