Sb0880 vs. onboard sound?

I'm building a new rig and taking some parts from an old one.

One of these parts is a Sound Blaster SB0880 card.

I have an M5A97 Evo 2.0 motherboard. Am I better sticking with onboard sound or the dedicated card, despite its age?

What advantages would the sb0880 give me?

Main use is with headphones and 2.1 speakers, although I do have one of those Turtle Beach boxes to mix surround into stereo channels if that's relevant.

Any help appreciated. Cheers.

(Also put in 'components' since there's no sound board that I could see. Hope that was correct).

Onboard soundcards are getting better for every generation out there. And if you asked if you should buy a soundcard because it whould enhance your gameplay experience, I whould say save the money. But they still have a long way to go to beat allmost any dedicated soundcard out there, I'd go for the SB0880 since you allready own it.
