Hi so i have recently built myself a new computer, it isn't preforming as well as what i assumed it would.

My question is that is my system bottle necking or am i just expecting too much?

build:
graphics card: Sapphire HD 7950 3gb GDDR5
cpu:AMD fx 6300 black edition
motherboard: Gigabyte 78lmt-usb3
ram:4 gb hyperx
Power supply: 500w

Over all im just wonder what sort of performance should i be getting?

oh and also i was assuming that it would at least be able to max out a game like Minecraft no problem.

Solution

It definitely is the power supply. If the build is new, consider replacing it with a 600w PSU from the retailer you bought it from. Otherwise, buy a new PSU.

The bottlenecks that could be existing are-
1. The PSU : I think you should have atleast 600w for a build with an inefficient card such as the 7950 and also an inefficient CPU.
2. The RAM : 8GB RAM has become more of a norm for building PCs these days.

You should be able to max out a game like minecraft if the PSU is not the bottleneck,
hence apparently you need a new PSU. Get atleast 600W for this build.

when i max out minecraft the fps seems to fluctuate alot and isnt steady at all :( after i bring some of the settings down a bit it seem to hold a steady 60 fps but even then it still fluctuates a bit.

so it is more than likely that it need some more power to run sufficiently, and another stick of ram would help?

Minecraft won't be a concern at all. BF4 will run 1080p 45-50 FPS at ultra settings .
It should behave like any other 7950. The performance will be approximately a bit better than the GTX 760.
