I have the noted computer, but the recovery disc set was not made at initial start-up (son say's you don't need em...ya right son).

Just out off warranty the hard-drive starts making a pronounced clicking noise and I see a blue screen and box with the message saying:

Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed

Insert recovery Media and hit any Key

Then Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media

I have installed a brand new 1T hard-drive in place of the 750 GB original drive and have verified the new hard-drive has been recognized by the system when I turn the system on and press and hold F2 at the start-up screen. The screen that comes up after pressing F2 when starting shows the new hard-drive under the "Information"menu as well as the "Boot" menu.

I installed the new drive to verify the hard-drive would be recognized by the system.

I have ordered from Acer, the E-recovery Media Disc set, that is specific to my system's SNID, and are waiting for the order to arrive.

What exactly do I need to do when I do to utilize the ordered disc set when it arrives.

Thank you

nothing actually, you could try formatting it. usually all the thing you need is the recovery disc. it will run, install the OS and driver and applications then done.

Qazzi, thanks for your reply. Do I have to change the boot order if the e-recovery media comes on cd's....the e-recovery media may come on a USB thumb-drive. The computer in question had Windows 8.0 installed at the initial start-up. I have not tried to format the new hard-drive because of the multiple partitions that are involved such as the hidden, D:, and C: . I hope the e-recovery media will set then up when run.

Thanks

yes when using the recovery media just change the boot other after that change it to the previous setting. as i said you really don't need to do anything just wait for the media. :)
