I've recently bough an AMD FX-8350 to my computer. I had an AMD FX-4100 which SUCKED. But when I boot my computer it says that it doesn't support the CPU but I can start Windows anyway. And then when I open something, the whole computer reboots!
So does the ASUS M5A78L-M LX3 support AMD FX-8350?

Best solution
Asus M5A78L-M LX3 does not support FX 8350, wonder how you even booted with that CPU on. Support list:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A78LM_LX3/HelpDesk_C...
Replace the MoBo ASAP, its not good for the CPU.

ASUS M5A78L-M LX as you can see it only supports 95w tdp cpu! however i wouldnt use any piledriver cpu with such old chipset board.! you would need an AMD 970 chipset mobo to utilize properly such cpu!

It wasn't till the 970 and 990 boards that there was actual FX cpu support. Many folks don't understand that. The older boards just had bios support bolted on. The hardware wasn't equipped for the FX cpu's. That is why you get all the people who have AMD cpu's being throttled on this forum. When you tell them it is the motherboard people don't want to accept it and get angry. You get the "my cpu is supported" schtik. When in reality the only thing these boards do is boot the cpu. If your board has onboard video it will be awful with a 4300, 6300, 8320 etc..... That is a great rule of thumb.

The 6300 is the most powerful 95w fx, its as good as you can get on that mobo. If you are planning on upgrading anytime soon to Intel, I'd save your money for the upgrade. If you don't plan on an upgrade in the near future, then go for it. You'll see a marked difference in ability with the 6300 stock, but don't expect too much OC with that boards power phases.

That's too expensive! I just want a cheap one!You get what you pay for. Your first board is ample proof of it. There is very little sense of buying a good cpu and not so good motherboards. I told you the GA-970A-UD3P and the 90FXA-UD3 Rev. 4 are boards that are cheap. And they are proven with the 8350. The ASUS M5A97 has a not so good track record. To top it off it is discontinued.

I prefer Asus. Have an Asus mobo, gpu, router, 2x monitors. However, in this case, the Gigabyte FX990 is by far the superior mobo, not only for overclocking, but quality and durability too. For some odd reason, Asus treats AMD as second class, Intel as the priority customer, and it shows. Don't get me wrong, Asus still builds a quality product, but $ for $, their performance is lacking.
