I recently was given a computer by a friend after he bought a new one. Once in my possession, I decided to clean the insides, which I now feel was a mistake. Now there is no video output. I bought a POST card to see if I could diagnose the problem for myself, but to no avail. After powering on the computer, several POST codes have been shown. Sometimes the code changes without me altering anything. I simply power it off, wait a minute, then power it back on to find a new POST code listed. I'm really at a loss. The current POST code, and one that seems to be the most common for me, is E2. For the four+ years my friend owned this computer, he had many issues, usually a crash of some sort. However, it did at least boot. I just don't know what to do. The motherboard is an ASUS M4A78L-M, so I determined it was running AMI BIOS per ASUS support manuals...but I'm certainly not sure in my research. Any direction would be most appreciated.

start with the simple stuff first. pull the gpu and your ram and then check that both the 24 pin and eight pin cpu power is connected. then do a post test with the post it card it should fail for video and ram. put one dimm in on the pc and see if the post it code changes. if it does put in a known working gpu if the mb does not have onboard video. the system board should post. check to see if you put fan or case cable on wrong ports/pins.

Well, I had already done those things, I think. What really confused me is that the code didn't change when I removed all the ram and the GPU. That made me suspicious of the POST card itself. I'll definitely retry what you suggested though.

I followed the guide, but still nothing. I'm guessing it's the cpu. I had removed the cpu when I was cleaning, and I must have reinstalled in incorrectly because I noticed bent pins later. And in my attempt to straighten some of the pins (some of which were severely bent) I broke one completely. I have since attempted to fix the broken pin by reinserting a gold wire where the pin would sit in hopes of it making contact. I really don't know if I helped the situation or made it worse, but I do know nothing is appearing on the monitor still. :/
