Hi, I built my first pc 3 weeks ago, and want to upgrade my graphics card from a 7770 to a gtx 980 before GTA V come out for pc (January 27th). I will also upgrade my monitor to 144hz, so I need to know if games will take advantage of it.

More about : gtx 980 100 fps gta games 1080p

Wait until GTA V comes out. We know nothing of the performance of that game at this point.

However if I was to hazard a guess, I would say that at max settings it will NOT run at 100+ FPS.

Its impossible to predict the FPS you will get in a game before it is even out. But, you can know that 100+ FPS isn't going to be happening with a single card, especially not if they port it over like they did GTA IV which was soooo CPU limited that a 5970 on an OC'd i7 920 got 65 FPS at 1280x1024 and the same 65 FPS at 2560x1600...

It wasn't even CPU limited, the port of IV was just crap. Even with highly overclocked sandy bridge CPUs it still runs like utter arse.

But will I still be able to notice the difference with 144hz? Currently I am using a hand me down monitor from like 2003 so I need an upgrade anyway

I think I am going to get 2x gtx 980in sli , but do you think it would just be worth it to get a ROG swift to play at 1440p(and would I get 100 or more fps?)

Just to repeat this again, noone knows, as GTA 5, as you said is out in january... i HIGHLY imagine you wont be able to run it 100+fps as i personally think rockstar will boss it and will be the hardest game to run...

I was referring to new games in general, will they be able to run at high fps?

It would probably get you to play GTA 5 @ 60~80 FPS on maxed out settings.

Wait till its out you will probably get playable FPS to start with on your rig when it comes out for all we know you could run ultra on an i3 and a 450 probably not though. All we know is its coming out in January and has AMD mantle so you it may go amd optimized. What CPU do you have etc?

We don't know it has mantle support as there is no source except that videocardz wrote an article on it (which itself was sourceless)

If I am not able to get the new gpu in time, will an hd 7770 be enough for medium settings(purely based on predictions)?

Id highly imagine, with that gpu, low at best... if you want it to be playable, with no mods... can i just ask, why such a nice cpu, and a limited gpu? why not even them out?

I was originally planning for a 780, but last minute changes due to everyone recommending I wait for 980, and that's what I did

You will probably be fine possibly not 100fps but perfectly playable unless rockstar massively muck us over.

Oh right. But the next gen systems are next gen and if we get lumbered with a port again I will most likely be optimizied for AMD cards, Right?
