Currently in process of migrating a client from hosted godaddy exchange service to an on premise exchange server that we built for them.

Wouldn't mind a few expert or experienced overviews of the process entailed. You can skip the basics as far as public static ip and how to get exchange installed. All that has been done just need to know how to proceed further from here.

Unfortunately we neglected to mention to the client that they would most likely require purchase of an SSL and pay for spam filtering. This will probably be a thorn in their side and we'll get stuck paying for that for a while.

You will need to point the MX record to who every you choose to use for spam filtering, from the spam filtering point yto your exchange server. You will also need a way to deliver email out of the client side. Depending on your spam filtering company they may want your outbound mail to go through them to be screened before being delivered, in that case you will use a smart host in your outbound connector. If not you will still need to find a way to deliver email out.
