Hi!

My friend has an older PC (HP Compaq dx20MT - Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM, Windows XP). It worked fine until recently. It started rebooting and wouldn't go into Windows.

I told him to chech the HDD SMART date (HDD is fine), test the RAM (Memtest says it's fine), look for leaking capactiors (none) etc.

The PC was doing allright for some time then and today he told me that after he attached a camera via a USB cable the computer rebooted and displayed this:

He said that this show up every time he boots the PC and that it won't boot into Windows. I told him to remove the CR battey, he did that, the time & date reseted but that's all - it still won't go past the screen.

What else can we try? Flashing the BIOS (it's already the latest version).

Any ideas/solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
if the bios chip is damaged he have to download the bios file to a floppy and try and force a reflash of the newest bios file. if the mb wont flash due to a bad chip. see if the bios chip for his mb is soilder on or is a push pin cmos chip. if it the latter then for 10.00 the chip may be on ebay to buy and he can replace it and reflash the bios. if not it time for a new pc.
