Why is the i5-4690K Processor so popular?

I'm most likely going to get this. Can someone please tell me why this is so good? It has no hyper threading either... ALSO, please answer if this cpu could run fine with my gtx 970 :)

Its popular because it is probably the best cpu for gaming if you balance price and performance, it is the cheapest unlocked intel processor and has good performance in most games. Hyperthreading is not needed for games as hardly any games use all 4 threads on the cpu. It wont just run with a 970 it will be great

It is 4 core - which satisfies most gaming requirements. It has 4 fast cores - faster than AMD CPUs. The i5 is cheaper than i7's. It is powerful enough to run any graphics cards - up to 2 x R9 295X2's.

So it is the best CPU for the price. That is why it is popular.

Do you think if i purchased it, that it would last me atleast a year without games exceeding 4 cores?

Yes definitely. It will last a lot longer than a year before its obsolete. The best thing about the K series SKU is that it can be overclocked and should last you a decent amount of time
