are you using a proxy server? if you aren't, we need to figure out how to change your internet settings. If you are using a proxy, we need to figure out if the ports and stuff are right

There are other devices which run normally on it. Is connect to a network just the standard place where you click connect on the network? Also just tried again, the exact message is "Unable to connect to the proxy server"

OK i just solved the problem, i went into View connection setting and went to proxy and turned it off, for some reason it was on? Now everything works, thanks for the assistance guys.

Well It means, that if you are routing via a bit of software proxy server on the client machine the IP address set up is not bound to the same Ip address given to you, this will happen if you for example installed proxy software then changed the type of adapter you used to get internet.

For example from a wireless adapter to using an the Ethernet adapter with a cable.
each device set up on the network will be given its own unique IP address from the router, the gate way address of the router and Dns/ domain look up server address for web page look up.

If you right click on the Ethernet net adapter, in windows make sure automatic is set in the property's of the device, for obtain IP and Dns settings. And check if proxy is also set to automatic.
Click apply and see if it works.
If you are not connected to the router or gateway in any way. Then it may be the cable you are using is damaged or you are using the wrong type, the cable should be a straight through, if using and X-over cable instead then you will get this message in some cases because an X-over is wired differently, and only used to connect two computers together with the same cable to each of the Ethernet adapters of the two computers direct without a router in between, and often can cause the problem.
