I have a Seagate External 1TB harddrive and somehow it started saying "You need to format...". Based on the forums, I have applied 'chkdsk I: /x' (I is the external drive loc). Now it stopped giving you need to format error, but the harddrive seems completely empty: 931GB free our of 931GB. I have downloaded a demo version of Seagate Data Recovery tool and it seems to be able to scan and see the data. I am not sure but I am thinking that some sort of partition table is lost; but before doing anything and losing everything, I wanted to get your suggestions. The problem is it is my main backup and I have moved everything to it and I was formatting my computer. So I don't have my data anywhere else.

Thanks for your help.

Make sure you've loaded its driver. Try it on another PC.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to another PC right now. Do you have any other suggestions till I go to office tomorrow to check it.
