Hi all

New to the forums but I've found tons of helpful information here already so thanks for that!

I'm trying to put together an upper mid-range gaming build based around the new GTX 970. I basically have had crap systems and laptops and been 5 years behind the gaming curve for ever. Now I want a machine that can run current titles at near-max settings and be able to run the next couple of years of games at least decently. It will be my first time building a system so I have a lot to learn.

I could use some input on my planned components, where the bottlenecks might be and where I am over/under spending on a component relative to everything else.

I also have no clue how to pick a case (no windows please!) or a cooling system, and I'm basically guessing when it comes to the PSU. I'm much more concerned about performance and efficiency than looks.

Components list:

Mobo - ASRock Z97 Extreme6 OR MSI Z97 MPower
CPU - Haswell i5 4690k
GPU - MSI GTX 970 Gaming TFV
Memory - 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 2133 MHz CL9 (2 x 4GB)
Storage - Samsung 840 evo 500GB SSD
PSU - CoolerMaster V550S OR Corsair CS650M OR Enermax NAXN82+ 650W OR ???
Case - ???
3rd party cooling - ???

Posting from my phone so I hope the formatting doesn't break.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If it makes a difference I'm not in a hurry - I can wait for new component releases if they will bring down prices or otherwise improve my build.

Thanks for the quick responses!
Is the MSI card a good choice? I know they aren't necessarily as respected as Gigabyte and Asus but they seem to be a bit cheaper... Also I've noticed prices went up like crazy - £70 or so - on the 900 series a few days after release (I'm in the UK) Will they come back down?
Also I see you suggested slower RAM. I've read conflicting info about that - some people seem to think RAM speed doesn't matter, others say it's important when you're overclocking..?

Edit: might want to add another 970 to the system down the line. Should i get a bigger PSU or will 5-600 still cut it? Bear in mind I want to try overclocking too.
