So I am going to be getting a new SSD soon and I am wanting to install my windows 8 onto it, but I am having trouble figuring out how. My PC was bought with windows 8 pre-installed and it didn't come with any sort of recovery disc or iso. I have used a couple programs to find my windows product key but when I try to use Windows 8 Installation Media OEM/RETAIL it tells me my key doesn't exist or will not work. Am I doing something wrong or missing something? Is there a way to be able to install my windows 8 that is currently on my HDD to my SSD without having to ask hp for a recovery disk. I've been trying to create a recovery or installation drive using a dvd but couldn't seem to figure it out.

so even though my pc came with it pre installed... I have to buy another copy...

could I factory restore my pc to original settings and create a system restore and put that onto a dvd/flash drive and restore it onto the new ssd?

Yes - your PC is a pre-built so it'll only have an OEM copy of Windows on it - once only installation.
