hi all, im hoping to get some advice and help as i have recently decided to upgrade the gpu on my workstation. i have very little knowledge when it comes down to computers so forgive me if some questions seem simple to you folks.
i purchased an asus geforce gtx 750 ti card thinking it would go into my dell and work, but sadly as i have found out my motherboard wont support pci-e 3.0. or so im led to believe through trawling the web for answers for many an hour.
what i would like to know is it possible to buy a better motherboard and use most of the parts from my 490, ie- cpu, power supply etc etc and the new gpu?? or would it be a complete buy of parts?
any help would be gladly appreciated.

hi, i installed it but when i turn on the pc i get no screen at all. also the fan in the tower blows like mad constantly. the 2 fans on the gpu spin as well with or without the 6 pin power plug in place. i read a past thread on here where some one had the same problem and they found that the motherboard wont support higher than pci-e 1.0.

many thanks

I just checked on the Intel site and the chipset is PCI-e 1.1, but the GPU should work. Have you tested it in another system?

You probably can't replace the motherboard and keep everything else simply because you'd need the same Intel chipset to support your processor(s) and memory.
