How long should it take to install windows? I am stuck at "completing installation" for more or less 20 minutes now. Thanks.

Depends on the method and your computer specs.

You sure the DVD is not damaged? Which windows?

I am actually formatting now since my laptop is not very responsive. I came from windows 7 but i cannot find my cd so I installed vista instead. It's taking a very long time now. This is my third time already to try it.

Should I discontinue now?

There could be a problem with either your motherboard or hard drive. That would explain the unresponsiveness.

But more likely is that the DVD is damaged. Try a Windows 7 Disc.

Also check that you do not have a recovery partition already on the hard drive. It should be among your boot options when you start up.

It now appears that I have 4 operating systems when I boot. What should I do with it?

When I boot up, windows boot manager appears and it says "choose an operating system to start. It has 3 Microsoft windows vista and 1 windows 7 (i tried to install vista thrice earlier) now it appears like there are four operating systems. What is a fix to this?

OK don't you know anyone that has experience with this? You will need to get rid of the extra Vista without removing the windows 7.

I don't know anyone that can do that. Windows 7 cannot be read too. When I booted up it says to re install using the dvd. I cannot use my laptop now. It is now starting. It is just stuck to me choosing what operating system should be used. When I pick, neither of those are functioning and all of it says that I should insert a windows dvd.

You are gonna have to get a Windows 7 DVD with the correct version, or find your recovery disc, or contact the manufacturer of the laptop.

No, you would need to remove those manually.
