How much GB does the Windows 8.1 OS take up?

A clean, brand new install of 8.1 takes around 18GB.
However...
If you're getting an SSD, 120GB or larger is recommended.
Why? Because it is never 'just the OS'. To fully utilize the benefits of an SSD, you also want your applications on it. That, plus windows updates, etc, etc...quickly adds up.
