I moved and upon powering my computer up at the new house it only powered up and didnt boot.
after some basic troubleshooting when i powered up without my video card plugged in it gave a beep and gave both my mouse and keyboard power.

i have no display without my video card plugged in and Idont have another video card to test it. but would this be a safe bet that replacing the video card would fix my problem?

So you got a single POST beep without a graphics adapter?

What are system specifics? Motherboard, CPU, graphics card, etc.

If you didn't have any graphics adapter, you should have received more than a single beep. The beep code is dependent on who makes your BIOS / UEFI, but it should have been more than a single short beep.

My guess is that you have either an AMD APU or an Intel i3 / i5 / i7 which has a built in graphics core. In this case there should be a video connector of some kind on your motherboard. It could be DVI, HDMI, or Display Port (I think).

Either way, so more information on you system will help us help you.

all fans spin when the video card is plugged in, when i unplug the video card the beep that i hear is the normal startup beep

i bought a gateway dx4870 and added a video card myself. the card lasted a year

the computer has intel hd integrated graphics. so when i plug my hdmi cable in and take my video card out should i get a display?

Yes you should get a display. When you get a single POST (Power On Self Test) beep, that means the the BIOS is satisfied that all the hardware needed to boot is present and working correctly.

So if you plug your monitor into the motherboard, you should see something.

After removing the card, have you tried with it back in the system? Sometimes during a move like that, the card gets jarred and it results in it unseating partially from the slot. Re-seating the card usually fixes this kind of problem.

What card do you have?

powering on with the video card plugged in gives no beeps and no power to my mouse or keyboard all fans spin.

unplugging my video card ( GeForce GT 610 ) causes my computer to beep once and give power to my mouse and keyboard but i get no display via my hdmi cable.

I have unplugged and replugged it in. all connections are secure

That is odd, POST is telling you that everything is OK, so the video should be redirected to the on-die GPU and out the motherboard HDMI connector. Do you have another video source you can use to test you monitor with?

Also another thing you may want to try is resetting the BIOS. If you have the manual for your Gateway, see if you can find in it where the CMOS reset jumper is.
