I have heard now just after ordering my new PC about those two combatability issues. Will 4790k work with MSI Z97 Gaming 5? I heard something about bios 1.3 update or something like that.

If it doesnt work like out of the box please explain what to do.

tnx

It needs BIOS 1.2

Core i7 Haswell Refresh i7-4790K 100 4.0 1M 8M C0 88 HD Graphics 4600 1250MHz 7917v12.zip

Only way you'll going to do this if this isnt on the mobo, is you'll have to get whoever youre getting it from to flash it.

Or you'll have to buy a lower spec CPU then flash it then put yours back in

So there is a chance of no post?

Yup, if that BIOS (or a higher BIOS), isnt on it when you get it

I doubt very much that if you get a haswell refresh CPU, which was released this year. That the BIOS on the mobo when you get it will support it. Without a BIOS update

I just read that a guy who got 1.0 thingy on his Gaming 5 motherboard and 4790k could not enter bios. What he did was he installed windows and flashed 1.3 and it worked. Is that possible?

When the computer boots and goes post bios, you can also enter the bios. The I7 4790k will also boot on bios 1.0, just some automatic adjusticements may not be done perfect.

But all i need to do is be able to install windows using DVD Optical Drive. When i do that i can just download and install 1.3 right?

Read the manual on how to update a BIOS. If you have to update it. You go to the mobo makers site. A BIOS isnt a driver its a BIOS

Altho MSI's program if you update it in windows isnt reliable. From what I've read, if it freezes or something, it'll brick your system

So basically i can unplug all my storage devices and plug in USB flash thingy and install Bios from that one? I mean should i install the newest one or spesific one. There are 1.0 to 1.7 i think

If that's how you do it. I've never had an MSI mobo. But if you can do it in the BIOS it'd be safer
