The GTX 970 is about half the size of your laptop and twice as thick

no, asus ROG don't allow you to upgrade GPU's like alienwares do. Though there would be little point until after say 2-3 generations of GPUs

When Clevo made Alienware laptops, you could upgrade them but within a very limited range of options ...as you can with all Clevo brands.... Can you strill do that thru Dell ? ....I'm not sure that's still true since Dell bought Alienware as I don't know anyone whose purchased one since the buy out.

I think I heard somewhere you could still upgrade alienwares after they had been bought by dell. Anyway, how do you exactly know if GPUs are compatible with your old alienware or sager/clevo laptop?

You go to the guy you bought it from and ask what options are available.
