Hey guys, this is my first post and I'd really appreciate some feedback on this potential build:

The system will be used for architectural modelling and rendering through 3DSMax/Rhino and V-Ray (perhaps moving to Lumion/Octane depending on how successful my attempts at GPU-based rendering are).

A few forums I have read seem to promote AMD CPU's with more cores as best for rendering, but I've always been an intel guy and there does always seem to be an argument for them on the same forums.

Besides rendering, the system would be used primarily for gaming. I'm not one for playing the latest crysis on max settings, but I'd like to be able to play things like Arkham Origins, Fallout 3, COD Black Ops II on decent settings.

I don't know if this is the case of having one or the other with a system built for rendering or one for gaming, so any advice would be really appreciated. As this is my first build, I am trying to stay away from overclocking too.

I already have a monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers.

Thanks in advance everyone!

We use strictly Intel / nVidia build for our engineering workstations.... which works put well since after hours, they become flight simulators or gaming boxes. Everyone of our builds is overclocked to the wall..... not so much OI think for observed productivity increases but .... well, we're engineer geeks and it would be out of character to do otherwise :)

Install RAM in matched pairs can't do dual channel w/ only 1 stick.

If ya want corsair, stick to HX650-850 watters or AXi series, Seasonic X, M12 and S12, EVGA G2/P2 and even B2, XFX Core Edition

The EVGA 970 is the weakest of the Big 4 MSI > Gigabyte > Asus > EVGA

Id suggest a Seagate SSHD over the Separate SSD and slow Blue ... put the savings into MoBo, PSU, Case upgrades

Thanks for that, didn't even think of the dual channel RAM there, thanks for that. As for the SSD, I already have the 840 Pro running in my VAIO so the plan was to just add the additional memory when I upgraded to a desktop.

I read elsewhere that the EVGA was the weakest, and it's noted as having a lower base clock speed than the others. But the price increases by as much as £50 for the other brands, is that really worth it considering they are all 970's?

This setup was an adaption of PCPartPickers September gaming builds (the $800, as apposed to the overclock-compatable $1000), the Mobo and PSU are from that. Could you suggest any different motherboards for this build, and perhaps explain what was wrong the ASRock for this purpose? The case seems to fit my needs, it was between that and the Corsair 200R. Either would work for me.
