SATA Drive cloning problem

I'm trying to clone the contents of my old 465GB hard drive: data, operating system and boot sector, onto a new 2TB hard drive. Both are SATA drives but I only have one SATA slot in my computer (it's a Dell Inspiron One). I thought I could clone the drive to an external hard drive then fit the new hard drive and clone the external one to the new internal one. I tried using IOMEI Backupper first of all but that can't even recognise the Iomega external drive I'm using so I can't clone to that. Then I downloaded Ease US Todo Backup free but it's telling me the drives are not the same size although in Windows they're both listed as 465GB Todo is saying my internal is 465.76 while my external is 465.07 and so won't do anything as they're different sizes. I've been trying to get it to work for 3 days now and am on the verge of taking it into a shop which I hardly ever do! Does any one have any suggestions? - I thought this was going to be much more straightforward! (I'm running Windows 7 btw)
