After having a bad run-in with a memory adviser twice in one week, I thought I should ask.

I have an IBM x3200 M2 server that I am wanting to cap out on ram (8GB). I have tried search, but have found very little. According to IBM's site, the machine with take PC2-6400 ECC DDR2 800MHz DIMM or PC2-5300 ECC DDR2 SDRAM DIMM. However, I couldn't find anything on these:

1.) Will this board support 2x 4GB sticks, or will I have to go 4x 2GB sticks?

2.) Does this board require the ram to be ECC? I Have found some much better deals on non-ECC ram ($30 per stick vs $90).

This server is mostly just a general media server with a NAS setup, but setting as the OS is 64-bit, I'd like to have more ram than 3GB.

Go 2x4, leaves more room for upgrading, and you will still have dual channel memory.

Thanks,

That's what I would like to do, I just wanted to make sure the board will accept 4GB per channel.
